Top-seeded Penfield claimed its third consecutive Class A sectional volleyball title with a three-game sweep over No. 7 McQuaid, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15 at Webster Schroeder high School tonight.
David Evans, the Class A tournament MVP, had 11 kills and Matt Sutherland a team-high 12 for Penfield.
"Dave was on fire this whole tournament," Penfield teammate Will Rutan said. "He was unstoppable."
It was the fourth time in five years that McQuaid and Penfield met in the Class A finals. |

Junior outside hitter Matt Sutherland recorded nine kills for Penfield (21-0), while junior rightside hitter Ryan Dangler added eight kills and several strong serving runs during the match.
"They are buying the ideas I am giving them," Penfield coach Mike Fusare, who has coached the Patriots for 13 years. "It has been like that for a while. They are just such a good group of kids that I have been working with all these years. You've got to be able to sell the product and they buy it."

| Junior outside hitter Matt Sutherland had 18 kills. Senior setter Tim Haack added 37 assists for the Patriots (16-0, 6-0), while junior rightside hitter Ryan Dangler had nine kills.
The Patriots, who won the 2007 Section Class A title, clinched at least a tie of the Monroe
County Division I title.
Senior middle hitter Will Rutan recorded six straight service points to clinh the fourth game.
"Rush-Henrietta came at us with everything tonight," Penfield coach Mike Fusare said. "And
they were great. They were aggressive. It was a fight. Both teams were siding out, but we
prevailed. |

Middle hitter Will Rutan added seven kills for the Patriots (14-0).
"We're just trying to get better heading into sectionals," Penfield coach Mike Fusare said. "We had a focus point to side-out at 70 percent. Tonight was the first time we have hit it (since late September). It makes the game a lot easier for us." |

| Penfield defeated Midlakes on the heels of Matt Sutherland's 24 kills in a non-league volleyball match Tuesday. Middle hitter Will Rutan had 12 kills and setter Tim Haack paced the Patriots (10-0) with 49 assists. Senior libero Matt Zaccardo added 11 digs. "It had a section final environment to it." Penfield coach Mike Fusare said. " I knew coming into it they would have a great idea of how to beat us. We knew it was going to be a battle in side outs and we tried to make sure we would side out at a higher rate. " Penfield, the reigning Class A champs, rallied in game 3 from 18-23 to eventually win the game 26-24. |
